about
"Man in Red" is a Christmas parody of "Man in Black" by Johnny Cash. Robbie and Christina wrote the lyrics based on the title idea from her dad, who unfortunately passed away earlier this year after a short battle with cancer. We'd like to dedicate "Man in Red" to him, who we affectionately call Mij (pronounced "midge" - it's Jim spelled backwards, haha) - that's him as a stinker on the cover art!
Mij had only come up with the title before he passed, so we wrote the lyrics with his very silly style in mind. He also wrote (and sings as Santa!) on "Christmasman", a parody of "Highwayman" by the Highwaymen. That itself was a continuation of sorts of our "Ghost Santa in the Sky" parody of "Ghost Riders in the Sky by Johnny Cash (and many others).
It debuted on Jon Solomon's annual 25-hour holiday marathon on 103.3 FM WPRB, right before Snaildartha! HUGE thanks to Jon Solomon - check out this amazing tradition at marathon.christmas
lyrics
Well, you wonder why I always dress in red
Why I wear a droopy hat upon my head
And why does my appearance seem to have a jolly tone
Well there's a reason for the things that I have on
Well I wear it for the good boys and good girls
Livin' in the decorated parts of the world
I wear it for the naughty little bastard who got coal
who has an icy heart and wicked soul
I wear the red for the elves who built my sled
or wrapped the presents til their fingers bled
so all the nice list children could get their dolls and cars
well that's the reason that I travel far
Well I'm doin mighty fine I do suppose
with my herd of reindeer and my festive clothes
But just so we're reminded of who's guiding the sled
up front there's Rudolph with his nose of red
I wear it for the merry Mrs. Claus
who manages the North Pole's many laws
She punishes the elves who work slow and complain
and hits them with her giant candy cane!
And I wear it for the thousands who have cried
Believin that Saint Nick was on their side
But when I checked my nice list for the second time
those bastards were on the naughty side
Well sometimes I think quitting would be better
And then I get a hopeful wishlist letter
So til the kids stop leaving out the milk and sweet dessert
You'll never see me wear a Hawaiian shirt
Ah I'd love to go to Margaritaville everyday
And tell the children "there's no toys today"
But its time to load my big ole bag of presents on my sled
Merry Christmas, I'm the Man in Red
